Deer
Our deer have come a long way since the late 70’s when wild deer were caught in live traps and relocated to paddocks for future domestication. A more dedicated approach has been utilised in the past 10 years. One mobs main focus is on velvet production, which ranges from 900-1,000 kgs a year. The balance of the hinds focus on venison production. We have purchased quality carcass stags and are seeing promising trends coming through.
Fawning percentages have stayed consistent over 10 years with a 93% average. The hinds start fawning in early November, weaning takes place in March. We have 3 dedicated deer blocks spread out over the farm. This makes weaning and mob management possible.
