Our Flock
The humble ewe and lamb are the true back bone of our farming business. The small but mighty sheep plays an integral role in paddock management - feed utilisation, weed control, and in our home gardens - fertiliser and weed suppression. Our shearing happens every 6 months. While wool doesn’t buy a new tractor like it used to, it does cover its own costs and keeps our ewes and lambs in top form.
During the height of summer, when the sun shines and the proverbial grass growth is at its peak, we buy in store lambs to ensure that we have a steady flock size all summer to utilise the grass growth to our economic advantage. While 6,500 lambs are produced here, an extra 2,000 - 3,000 store lambs are purchased and finished.
